Through our innovative Airside 4.0® solutions, we help airports become smarter, more connected, and better equipped to enhance the passenger experience.
ADB SAFEGATE is a global leader in smart airport solutions that help airports manage aircraft safely and efficiently — from approach to departure. Our portfolio includes runway and taxiway lighting, tower-based traffic control systems, intelligent gate solutions, and docking automation.
About the role
We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic System Engineer to join our Apron Business Line.
Our Apron solutions help airports position aircraft safely and efficiently at the gate. These solutions are based on advanced sensor technology and a comprehensive software suite used at airports around the world, including many of the world’s busiest airports.
As a System Engineer within Apron, you will be part of our DevOps setup and report to the System Engineering Manager for the Apron Business Line. You will focus on the design, dimensioning, configuration, delivery, deployment, testing and commissioning of Apron solutions in close cooperation with customers and internal project teams.
This is a customer-facing technical role where you will work across international projects and collaborate with colleagues, partners and customers from different cultures. Depending on project needs, the role includes international travel, estimated at approximately 30% per year.
What you will do
As a System Engineer, you will act as a technical coordinator and key contributor throughout the project lifecycle - from early alignment and solution design to configuration, deployment, testing, site acceptance, customer training and go-live support. You will help ensure that our Apron solutions are delivered on time, within budget and according to agreed quality standards, while supporting a smooth transition into live airport operations.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating technical activities in customer delivery projects.
- Supporting project teams during planning, implementation, testing and commissioning.
- Creating and maintaining technical plans, deadlines and documentation.
- Configuring and deploying Apron solutions according to approved designs.
- Performing system checks and supporting troubleshooting during project execution.
- Ensuring delivered IT solutions are transitioned into live operations with minimal disruption.
- Conducting site acceptance testing and delivering customer training for the Apron solutions you have implemented.
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders according to DevOps principles.
- Providing technical input during pre-sales and solution design activities.
- Supporting Product Management and Solution Architects with operational insights for future system designs and developments.
- Contributing to high-quality, on-time and on-budget project delivery.
What you bring
You have a strong technical background and enjoy working close to customers in an international project environment. You are structured, accountable and able to communicate complex technical information in a clear and understandable way.
We are looking for someone with:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, or equivalent experience, in IT, Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
- At least 1-2 years of experience delivering systems development, systems integration, infrastructure or technical customer projects.
- Experience with business-critical, real-time or online systems is highly desirable.
- Experience working in international project environments.
- Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken.
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally as required by project needs.
- Ability to pass a criminal records check required for airport airside access.
- Knowledge of, or certification in, ITIL, DevOps or project management is considered an advantage.
You may currently work in IT, R&D, systems integration, infrastructure, DevOps or technical project delivery and be looking for a role closer to customers, operations and real-world airport environments.
Technical skills
You have proven 3-5 years of experience in several of the following areas:
- Cloud solutions
- Containerisation and/or Kubernetes
- Linux and Windows system administration
- Virtualisation
- Azure DevOps or similar DevOps tooling
- TCP/IP networking
- Systems configuration and deployment
- Troubleshooting of complex IT solutions
- Technical documentation and customer-facing delivery
Experience with airport systems, aviation, industrial automation or other mission-critical environments is an advantage, but not a requirement.
Ways of working
You are comfortable working in structured project environments and understand the importance of quality, traceability and customer commitments.
Experience with different delivery models is an advantage, whether from Waterfall, Scrum, Kanban or DevOps-based ways of working. You do not need to come from one specific methodology, but you should be able to adapt to different project setups and collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
You are organised, quality-focused and able to balance technical detail with project deadlines and customer expectations.
Personal qualities
To succeed in this role, you are:
- Customer-focused and service-minded.
- Comfortable working with colleagues and customers from different cultures.
- A strong communicator who can explain complex technical topics clearly.
- Structured, accountable and proactive.
- Able to manage priorities, deadlines and stakeholder expectations.
- Curious and willing to learn from colleagues, customers and projects around the world.
- Interested in aviation, smart airport technology and business-critical systems.
Aviation is a fast-paced and challenging industry, and you know how to stay calm, structured and solution-oriented when priorities change or issues need to be resolved quickly.
Why join us?
As a System Engineer in our Apron Business Line, you will work with advanced airport technology used at major airports worldwide. You will be part of an international environment where technology, customer delivery and aviation operations meet.
This role gives you the opportunity to follow solutions throughout the full project lifecycle - from design and configuration to testing, acceptance, go-live and operational handover.
You will contribute directly to safer, more efficient and more sustainable airport operations around the world.
