Mission
As a System Engineer you will be responsible for performing configuration, validation, deployment, and testing, of Airfield Lighting Control and Monitoring Systems (ALCMS).
You will be at the core of ADB Safegate’s customer relationships in Solutions Engineering, part of the Airfield Business Line. The role involves delivering end-to-end customer projects, from supporting pre-sales and design to configuration, cabinet set up, testing and on-site commissioning. It is a cross-functional role that requires working with teams across the globe. The System Engineer has the opportunity to take ownership, solve problems and grow our business. ADB Safegate provides new System Engineers with extensive on-the-job training allowing them to become familiar with the applicable regulations and standards and reach a great understanding of the airfield lighting industry and product lines.
Responsibilities
Project engineering leadership
- Lead project lifecycle from production release to customer acceptance.
- Manage assigned milestones, deadlines and tasks.
- Interface with project engineers and customers to assist in software design, development, testing and troubleshooting.
- Effectively communicate project status to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
- Coordinate with stakeholders, such as airport authorities and maintenance personnel, contractors, sub-contractors, etc.
Software
- Perform configuration of ADB Safegate proprietary software.
- Perform configuration of commercially available software and hardware.
- Develop minor software modifications based on customer-specific requirements.
Hardware
- Select and arrange procurement of suitable hardware for the ALCS
- Test, configure and commission the full ALCS
Testing and Validation Support
- Utilize software standards and processes to produce and execute test plans.
- Preparing and conducting Factory Quality Tests, Factory Acceptance Tests, Site Acceptance Tests and customer trainings.
- Test and maintain operating systems, application software and system management tools.
- Adhere to local and international safety and quality standards during testing and commissioning.

Required qualifications & skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Industrial Automation, or equivalent. Master’s degree is a plus.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant work experience. Experience in the aviation sector or with airfield lighting systems is highly desirable.
- Practical knowledge in configuring Linux and/or Windows operating systems.
- Understanding system schematics, redundancy, and system architecture design.
- Experience with Siemens PLC S7, TIA Portal or similar.
- Experience with network communication (Ethernet TCP/UDP) and fieldbus systems (Profibus, Modbus, CANbus, ProfiNET, etc).
- Experience with network configuration and hardware setup.
- Experience with AutoCAD drawings.
- Project management skills/experience -- ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, be a true team-player and effectively time-manage and prioritize under pressure.
- Ability to work cooperatively in cross-functional, multiple geographic location setting.
- Decisiveness and sense of urgency; ability to take action quickly on issues that matter.
Languages
- Professional proficiency in German and English required. Proficiency in any other language is a plus.
